Work break day 1
Logging the days of my mini sabbatical
Yesterday was my last day at Grove Collaborative and I won't be starting my next job until Jan 18, meaning I have an approximately month-long break from work. In the time since I've started working as a software engineer, I think that's the longest break from work I've ever gotten to have. I'm thinking of it affectionately as a mini-sabbatical that I carved for myself.
I'm pretty excited about this time, but I also hear it's common for folks who have a break to also think they'll get to do a ton of stuff and then end up putzing around for most of it. I'm also sure it'll be over in a flash in a way — four weeks is not that long, and it's easy to blink and a week be gone.
I like writing, and I normally don't get around to reflective posts (other than the occasional long ruminative journal entry) when I'm working. So I thought I might aim to log a little, potentially minimal post of my mini-sabbatical work break each day as both a little exercise and a way to commemorate this break. I might miss a day, or eventually stop off, but it seems like an accessible enough exercise to attempt.
Today is day 1 (a Saturday). I'm mostly unwinding and meeting up with a friend for dinner in Burlingame. I'm also putting together a list of some things to do. People kept asking me what I'd do with my break, but I only had vague plans. True to my nature, I couldn't focus much on my break and move on until I had finished clocking out my last day.
