Work break day 10
Week 2, day 2 (Monday)
I’m back at Rona’s place. A good chunk of today went to tidying and cooking: washing dishes, putting together lunch from leftovers, picking up the vegan meal plan food, taking out the recycling, putting together afternoon snack (sliced cherry tomatos and queso fresco), freezing old bananas and dealing with a moldy pear, cooking an old kabocha squash. Around a certain time in the afternoon after being industrious, Rona and I both get a bit faded energy-wise and need to take a break, which I did by writing a catch-up post for days I had missed logging.
After the break, I tried to purge some of the tupperware collection. Then I put together some noodle soup to have something ready in case Mom was hungry when she arrived in the evening. I combined some leftover Thai soup broth with a pho spice kit and more chicken broth, and sliced up napa cabbage, tofu, mushrooms, and cilantro and boiled three eggs and some pho noodles to go with it. Rona and I watched the Austin, Texas version of Terrace House on Netflix, called Twenty-somethings or something.
I was doing some light yoga followed by a core strength yoga drill when Mom arrived in the evening. I’m starting to come to terms with what the shape of this break might look like:
I’m hoping to spend some of this week re-organizing and decluttering Rona’s place; although, in reality, we may also spend some of the week celebrating those darned holidays and spending time with our Mom while she’s visiting us in SF.
Most of this break might be spent on the above decluttering goal, though I’m also setting a goal of doing yoga workouts three times a week.
Maybe I’ll spend a little extra time on relaxation and creative hobbies, but I wouldn’t place a lot of stake on getting to strong milestones with those.
I’m setting some loose informal goals by the end of the break based on those premonitions:
Have made a dent in making Rona’s place more liveable and like a cozy home to be at and work from.
Finish the remaining two weeks of the core yoga program, and start setting up some good fitness habits for when I start work.
Start building up some good cooking playbook for healthy/easy meals when I’m working again.
Learn how to be human again (to live life without an agenda, do things based on whatever I feel like and enjoy the day-to-day)
Finally this evening I started to reply to some folks in my email and on LinkedIn. It’s taken me around a week to get around to digital errands that I’ve grown avoidant of as I try to manage the social commitments I’ve made, cooking and cleaning for myself and tending to my health.
